Directions from Sapporo
① [Doto Expwy] Ashoro route (approx. 4 hours 45 minutes)
After getting off at Ashoro IC, there are two routes: A route via Rikubetsu and B route via Lake Onneto. Route B is full of attractions such as Lake Onneto, Aioi roadside station popular for Kumayaki, and a short detour to Lake Akan, famous for Marimo. It is recommended.
② [Do-o Expwy] Route via Kamikawa (approx. 5 hours)
Route A takes you via the Engaru Setose IC, which is the end of the Asahikawa Monbetsu Expressway. It’s a bit of a detour, but it’s easy to drive, so it’s recommended.
Route B is the route where you get off at Kamikawa Sounkyo IC and enjoy the scenery of Sounkyo. This will take you via Sekihoku Pass. The time does not change much, so it is recommended for those who want to enjoy the scenery of Sounkyo.

*Tsubetsu Pass is usually closed to traffic from November to late May. Please note that if Tsubetsu Pass is not passable, the route will be a long detour.
